As a young man Zawavari was a friend of T’chaka the great and S’yan the swift. T’chaka had given precedent to the ways of magic so Zawavari a wakandan born mystic was one of the people he held in high regard. It is also suggested that he knew T’challa’s birth mother N’yami.

Somehow he fell out of favor with the royal family and the technologically advanced capital city. He was banished to the outer less advanced tribes of Wakanda. He was particularly disliked for some reason by T’challa.

When Dr.Doom fatally wounds king T’challa and technology can’t resuscitate him, they turn to the ancient ways and magic known only to Zawavari and his followers. He agrees to assist the two Queen’s Ramonda and Storm in exchange for a single cube of pure vibranium. They accept and he uses his powers to save T’challa thanks to the love shared by himself and Storm and also in saving Wakanda from Morlun.

After this he is instrumental in preparing T’challa for a finale confrontation with Dr. Doom. After receiving his payment the pure Vibranium he returns to his abode and watches the events of Doomwar unfold.
