The Harlem Shadow #2-Birth of the Cool Promotional Poster

Ravenhammer Comics is creating a new universe of characters. We have seen entire macrocosms of superheroes come and go. Some of them invented by classic comic book companies, others concocted by flash in the pan publishers with delusions of grandeur. There have been deconstructionist versions of the great comic book icons and the occasional tongue in cheek homage to pop-culture masked men that we continue to devour voraciously in the super-media post internet age. Dark Knight. Watchmen. The Ultimates. Hellboy. All Star Superman. Some of the greatest comics ever conceived…and not one containing a significant black character. There are no major or minor black characters that appear in any of these landmark epics. Why is that? In a fictional reality, in which all of these stories and characters have been birthed, that question is easy to answer. Nobody saw fit to create any worthwhile, interesting black characters. Therefore, creating a universe of viable…interesting and visually alluring multi-ethnic characters was my goal. The goal of Ravenhammer Comics pertaining to The Harlem Shadow and Lucius Hammer obviously is to create a self-contained universe of black superhero that exist during the same time frame as their Caucasian counterparts and to show the evolution of the black superhero throughout those eras. The Harlem Shadow is just the beginning. We intend to create an entire mythology of characters you have never seen before; Black superhero who live and breathe….who interact and dwell among regular people and other heroes of color. These are the stories that no one has told…until now.
