Now don’t get me wrong I was just as excited as the other guys when news of more mutant movies on the way, despite the shenanigans that plague the X-men franchise. New mutants while not my favorite series ever I have grown attached to the characters who have graduated into the ranks of the X-men. Sunspot, in particular, is one of my favorites, he now even heads his own Avengers team in U.S.Avengers.
Now imagine how much more excited I was when I heard that even Cecelia Reyes was going t be included in this film! When I started collecting comics seriously she was just introduced to the crazy world of the X-men!
Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) stars as Wolfsbane with Anya Taylor-Joy (Split) appearing as Magik. Henry Zaga as Sunspot, Charlie Heaton as Cannonball, and Blu Hunt as Mirage. Alice Braga will be co-star as Dr. Cecilia Reyes.
Now upon googling the characters something because obvious. The predominantly Afro-Hispanic Cecilia Reyes and Roberto Dacosta sure as hell don’t look anything like they should. Bad casting perhaps? or perhaps this is just another instance of Ethnic fluidity.
I mean the Human Torch was recast as Black, so too was Electro in that other Spiderman movie, there was also Heimdall in Thor, perhaps this is just a modern take on fictional characters. Is this life in a post-racial society? Do fictional character ethnic identities no longer matter?
Now I’m not even going to rant and rave about it I’m just gonna leave the pictures here and you tell me whats your take on this…Is it just the latest bit of “white washing” or should we be thankful they even cast Latino’s in the roles?
What do you think?

More as it Breaks!
I hate it Roberto is Afro Brazilian and he looks like a surfer. Didn’t know Reyes was in the movie just SMH. Also you should thrown Dani Moonstar actress
Bobby is mixed and I always just identified him as brazillian, so that isn’t really the one that bothered me. Cecilia, though, she didn’t have a Hispanic feel in the comics other than her name/background. She was a black character that is now light skinned Hispanic. Danielle, I guess the actress is Native American, but is again very light. taken individually, it would probably pass unnoticed, but taken together, you have to wonder. Shan must not be in the movie because they couldn’t find a Vietnamese woman that was white enough.
You needs to get over it…
