In case you guys missed it the X-men anime will soon be here (Scream) And the best part about all this? The anime is heavily influenced by my absolute favorite X-men tales of the past ten years Grant Morisson’s New X-men and Joss Whedon’s Astonishing x-men

Reporter Chaplick from the Chronicle Newspaper decides against her editors best wishes to go to Paris Island home of the Blood Syndicate for the exclusive story of a life time. After arriving they give her specific instructions to do as she’s told as she’s introduced to the whole team: Masquerade, Tech-9, Fade, Flashback, BrickHouse, DMZ and Wise son. Brickhouse and Wise son have a small scuffle over him using the word bitch to refer to women. They then dispatch to take down a crack house; Chaplick is along for the ride now that they’ve given her a gun.
The plan is to destroy the drugs and take the money for themselves. They use teamwork to get into the building through the front door and use violent means to take down all opposition. In the thick of things the reporters head gets blown off and flashback saves her. When they find the money they secure it, in the drug room Flashback steals a handful of cocaine without anyone realizing. Holocaust burns down the building despite being told by Wise son to just torch the drugs. While the rest of the team evacuates the people he just watches. He then challenges Wise son for leadership of the team since he disagrees with the way this gang is being run.
Bold and Ballsy are the two words that best describe this first issue. Instead of superheroes we get a gang of super-powered freaks.
As far as introduction issues go, this one was a good read. The team gets their introductions and all their powers get highlighted. Right out the gate we also get some interesting team dynamics. Brick and Wise son have issues; Holocaust and Tech-9 have different ideas about what there gang should be doing. Tech-9 clearly wants the gang to be a force for good, albeit very violently. Tech-9 is against drugs Flashback clearly is using drugs since she stole some for personal consumption.
I also found it bold to have Wise son spout off about “the white man”. I don’t even know HOW they got this on comic stands in the 90’s? A black Muslim talking cold hard facts about the “system”.
This issue also had a healthy dose of action and over the top violence to keep action junkies very happy.
Art…..not the best…nothing to talk about

Angela Cairn was your typical New York cop until her partner and friend Jackie Kessler was killed by the creature known as Vermin. Following his death she became bitter and reckless. After following a series of leads she was ambushed, mutilated and mutated by one of Baron Zemo’s mutates. Though she apparently died in the process and was buried. A few Nights later she rose from the grave as the creature known as Nocturne.
In this new guise she hunted down those who had done her wrong. In this capacity she came into conflict with Spider-man who mistook her for the very killer she was hunting, though he did realize the error eventually. Together the two defeated the killer but Spider-man prevented Nocturne from killing it.
After this she rescued a feral and mindless Puma. Using her powers she healed him body and mind. For awhile she traveled with Puma and then the two split.
During the Initiative program she was suggested as a potential recruit but It never materialized. Her current whereabouts are unknown.
Grace & Thunder
Grace Choi and Anissa Pierce are a couple for black superhero history books! Anissa is the daughter of one of the earliest black superheroes in comics Black Lightning. She joined the superhero team “The outsiders” who at the time operated under Nightwing as opposed to batman. Sparks flew immediately for these two, Grace an Asian red head with purple eyes is of Amazon descent with a gruff exterior and a body littered with Tattoos never seemed much like Thunder’s type….but then again we had no idea she was gay Grace would always tease the college girl and most thought it was because they were so different. Ms Choi also had another obstacle to jump before Thunder would give her the time of day.
She was always sleeping with the men on her team and men in general. Grace was a very promiscuous girl, that may actually be an understatement considering only Oliver Queen/Green Lantern may have slept with more people.
When Thunder’s father was framed for murder and locked in prison however Grace showed a softer side. A caring, emotional side which caused Thunder to take notice. Lets just say at this point Grace revealed she f***ed men but dated women, making her a bi-sexual amazon with the hots for our female black superhero (lol)
Despite the seeming stability of being with Thunder and caring for her deeply Grace has been known to still shag the occasional man. Ain’t love grand! Below you can watch as their story unfolds in this tribute to their relationship.
