[The new Buffy the Vampire Slayer will be] like our world, it will be richly diverse, and like the original, some aspects of the series could be seen as metaphors for issues facing us all today,” read a statement provided to Deadline by the producers. Deadline cites sources say that show’s empahsis on diversity reflects the producers intention to cast an African American actor to be the new slayer. The show is also described as contemporary, “building on the mythology of the original.” This new Buffy show is being pitched to unspecified streaming and cable networks this summer.

Two things make me super excited about this, 1) Joss Whedon’s involvement, 2) African American actor to be the new slayer, h hell yes! Buffy had four slayers that stood out while on air Sineya the African born original slayer, Kendra the Jamaican born heir to Buffy, Faith who was activated after Kendra’s death and the titular character herself. I hope all my black actresses are sending in their headshots because this is a career changing oprtunity right here! As for which network we hope itlands on, *Cough* Netflix *Cough* but we will be wating it regardless of where it lands. Color us excited as f**k!
