Welcome to Counter-Earth, where the future of your species is being developed by crack evolutionists. A better future awaits and is only one evolutionary updated away.
The New Men rise for what is theirs. They seek the chaos and the speed to create the true Earth, the true evolution.
Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver discover a terrible truth about their past.
Cover– Daniel Acuna is on cover duty and it’s his usual fair. Not as strong as Uncanny Avengers #1 and it won’t win any new fans but it’s adequate.
Art- Courtesy of Daniel Acuna and it all looks wonderful!
Story– Sabretooth is taken down hard by the High Evolutionary. He vaporizes the whole city due to their imperfections. Dr. Voodoo meets with the unsettled dead and the Evolutionary send s Luminous to kill her siblings.
Mystery– Who is the low Evolutionary?
Black Hero- Dr. Voodoo is back and he’s being used as mostly a medium for the dead, but it works! The gravity of what the high evolutionary has done and is still doing that much more tangible.
Victor Creed– I was underwhelmed with Avengers and X-men AXIS. Having a good Victor Creed was equally underwhelming. Rick Remender though has framed inverted Creed as not good, but more like neutered. He remembers all the evil stuff he’s done he just now has conscience and lacks that old gut you like a trout killer instinct. I get a distinct Joss Whedon Angel vibe. If handled right this has potential…..
Say what– So the High Evolutionary has never come in contact with a feral mutant possessing a healing factor? That just came off as incredibly weird especially if this Evolutionary is expected to be the original. He’s run into Wolverine alone a handful of times…..
The Twins– I still don’t get why we needed another mystery surrounding who is Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s father. How is this new info going to enhance the two, besides tie in with Joss Whedon’s Avengers Age of Ultron? There entire existence was based on being the kids of Magneto…why not just say Wanda’s powers altered history or changed them genetically?
All New Captain America– So he’s become a tree monster…but we already know it won’t last so no real suspense there.
Overall this was just a small improvement over the first issue, i’m still not blown away! 3/5 stars
