DANI MOONSTAR joins the Defenders!
Valkyrie and Misty prepare to take on the Doom Maidens.
Plus: A closer look at our sadistic new villain!
The Good
Cover- Misty and her guns (and Fro), Valkyrie with her sword and shield while Dani Moonstar totes her bow and Arrow; it’s a pretty nifty cover with much better art than the interiors. The other cover with a large Misty Knight and a tiny Valkyrie in silhouettes of blue on the orange background is equally cool.
Black Hero- Misty Knight my afro puff diva has looked better but I’m glad she’s here! Storm also makes an appearance on a page or two.
Villain- This issue introduces us to the antagonist Caroline Le Fay who wants the powers of a Valkrie and to this end has captured Dani Moonstar to do it. We also hear of the Doommaidens who clearly Valkyrie and her newly chosen team must face eventually.
Art- Love the colors in this issue, bold and dynamic on every single page, it def enhances the rather stilted art.
Action- Well One thing I can’t knock in this book is the action which continues to be one of the highlights.
Purpose- It was revealed why Valkyrie will be forming the fearless defenders and I suppose that does give the book a small bit of purpose.
The Bad
Art- Some parts were very stiff and stilted. The artist has problems in action scenes and his women are not the most gorgeous you’ve ever seen. Another artist may be what’s needed to push this series into at least ‘check out” status.
Seriously- So She came to earth to fill the ranks of the fallen shield maidens with earth women and she could find no one suitable? Even with Storm and Misty hanging around? Someone needs to slap this girl she’s not taking this mission even remotely serious in any shape or form.
The Ugly
Overall I see potential but the execution is still off 2.5/5
