Avengers Vs. X-Men #5 Review

The fiery conclusion of Act One brought to you by Matt Fraction and John Romita Jr!

Clashing on a lunar battlefield, the tide of the conflict will be turned…

The Phoenix takes its host! All hope is lost?!

The Good

Ending- For the first time since Avengers vs X-men #1 I’m awake and excited after what amounts to filler from issue 2-4. The Phoenix is here the Avengers show their Aces and Hope the “would be” mutant messiah is….not the avatar of the Phoenix? Talk about an elaborate mind f***!

Instead the Phoenix chooses Cyclops, Emma Frost, Namor, Colossus and Magik as its hosts? Behold the Phoenix 5!

Art- John Romita Jr. is a great artist and this issue sparkles

AVX-I loved the tension in this issue everything was leading up to this moment, the fights and the brief exchanges were also far more meaningful and that ending…..woooh!

The Bad

Art- If you don’t like Romita Jr.’s art this issue won’t change your mind.

The Ugly

Honestly the shocker of an ending really just enhanced the entire series 4/5 for a satisfying reveal NO ONE SAW COMING!

stars- 4
