Avengers #7 Review

Summary

Jarvis butler to the Avengers is on his way to the airport to meet with a child he has been sponsoring for years. At the airport terrorists attacks and a super being, at the mansion new members Justice and Firestar try on there new costumes, cap tries out his new shield, Wanda/Scarlet Witch  and Vision discuss there “marriage” and his “death” right before they get a priority alert from the airport. When they arrive they are quickly captured by the terrorists who work for Moses Magnum. Lucky for them Triathlon saves them and once they rally they save the hostages and get out of the building before building collapses around them. The super-being turns out to be the child Jarvis had been sponsoring all these years, they share a tear filled reunion since she was also a hostage of the terrorists. Back at the mansion Wanda calls for wonder man and the two make love while Vision walks in and catches them.

The Good

Art- George Perez’s art is at home with this team of Avengers. Strong Line work, lots of details, bold colors, well showcased emotions and action that flows. Gorgeous art!

Characterization- Jarvis was a prim and cowardly as I remember. Captain America and Haweye both shows signs of the leadership rivalry which has become a part of their friendship over the years. The young couple Firestar and Justice fit well into the new kids mold. Firestar in particular has always been a conservative character and her reaction to the new revealing costume was spot on! Wanda and Vision (once my favorite couple in comics) have their awkward romance and his “death” in Avengers #1 brought up and her emotional breakdown is well crafted as was her sleeping with Wonder man, Visions essential “brother”.

Continuity- This issue also plays off marvel continuity at the time. Cap lost his original shield at the time and had the all too cool energy shield it gets a highlight here. Thor had issues with the dark Gods at the time so he spends most of the issue dealing with his own problems and little time with the team. Pure continuity gold!

Action- There were nicely choreographed fights, none too long but just enough to keep action Junkies happy.

Debut- This marks the first appearance of Triathlon. Love him!

Villain- Moses proves why he should be more of a major player in the marvel universe his connections, multiple companies and brilliance make him a formidable foe. Why is he relatively unknown outside comics is just a travesty!

The Bad

Silver claw- This new superhero is ms convenient. Sponsored by the Avenger’s butler, developing superpowers and then being used by Moses to clash with the avengers? Can we say set up for joining the avengers anyone? Too predictable

This issue lacked that something which separates your average comic from the must buys.

The Ugly
