New Black Panther Series Coming To All-New, All-Different Marvel!!

Straight from Comicbook.com:

The King of Wakanda is coming to All-New, All-Different Marvel.New Black Panther 2

As Marvel Comics revealed today, a new Black Panther series will hit comic shelves when the company launches its latest publishing initiative this fall. Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso broke the news during an interview with Mass Appeal, while also confirming that more unannounced All-New, All-Different Marvel titles are on the horizon.

“All-New Marvel Now! is a campaign where there are new #1s across the board – from Spider-Man to Squirrel Girl to stuff we haven’t announced yet, like Black Panther,” Alonso told Mass Appeal.

When asked for verification, Marvel confirmed with ComicBook.com that a new Black Panther series is indeed in the works. While a creative team and release date are still under wraps, it’s likely that Marvel will formally announce the title closer to the November 2015 comics solicitation deadline. Earlier today, Marvel exclusively revealed more information on their latest All-New, All-Different title, “Spidey,” with ComicBook.com

This will Mark the Panther’s first solo series since Black Panther Most Dangerous Man Alive was cancelled in 2012 [Read all about it here]. Color me excited! I have my hands and toes crossed Jonothan Hickman is writing his book!

  1. This is unexpected news
And if it comes to pass I will be properly ecstatic
But Marvel has scorched us plenty of times in the recent past
    So I am wary
As to Mr Hickman I have found his recent work to be tired and mediocre
Perhaps work on a new series will revitalize him
Who ever the writer is he or she should do justice to the character and should understand and appreciate and be able to communicate and demonstrate what the character is about .
Of course since Marvel seems to have ash canned it’s history this proposed new incarnation of T ‘Challa could literally be anything
    Including awful
But I want to be impressed
I want to have my spirit soar at reading the story and my brain to catch to catch fire at seeing the art So I will wait and see
Thank you for the heads up

  2. Given that the US has elected its first African American to the US Presidency(Barack Obama natch) will we see him in this new BP series? It will be interesting to see the interaction not just between Wakanda and the US but between a black superhero who is also a King in his own right( a point often overlooked in comics) and America’s first black Chief Executive! What about T’Challa’s former wife Ororo Munroe( Storm od the X-Men)? Will she be making guest appearances in the new title?

  3. Replying with respect
I whole heartedly agree with your ideas and hope they are manifested in the the upcoming series .
There is all kinds of story potential there

  4. I hope that they do a better job at both characterization and clarifying his ‘King of the Dead” power set. I was under the impression that as KOTD his abilities would be the equal of any previous Black Panther (as strong as the strongest, and as fast as the fastest), others say that he has the combined power of every previous Black Panther. That level of power destroys the whole Black Panther concept.

  5. William–you put your finger on why I am so apprehensive about any Black Panther movie or comic. BP has been my favorite character since I was a kid but Marvel has a long history of depowering him, putting him in comas, and generally kicking him around. I was hoping Hickman would give him the power up he needs and deserves–but as per usual with the BP and Marvel, the promises have not been fulfilled. YES–Bast said he would get the combined strength of all the Black Panthers before him. But guess what? Hickman tweeted that maybe he’s gotten a slight increase in his physical abilities, but the “real get” was the collective memories of the former BP’s. Of course that doesn’t explain how BP beat a Hulk level Black Dwarf–we were led to believe BP was FINALLY formidable but no. Hickman made the fight happen off-panel, so we didn’t get to even see what is probably BP’s finest moment (typical). BP needs to be IMPRESSIVE, FORMIDABLE, or people will not become fans. Look at Doomwar. BP is in a coma through most of it. In Jungle Action he was beaten up by a bunch of Klan members. In the Avengers, he almost never made any real contributions and was constantly depowered, in Most Dangerous Man Alive they took what little power he had away. It is so frikkin’ annoying. They had better get back to the original character first seen in Fantastic Four where BP took them on and (sort of) won. The recent tech upgrades are welcome and long overdue, but he needs a power up. He doesn’t need to be Thor, but lets get real. He is going up against threats like Galactus and it makes no sense for him to be basically “a black Captain America running around in a kitty suit” as one mean fan once described him. I just can’t believe Hickman built up all this anticipation and then just dropped the ball. If I didn’t know better I’d swear Marvel wants this character to fail. Every other Avenger has gotten a power upgrade but T’Challa. Why? Why make him so weak? The days of a human just putting on a costume and standing shoulder to shoulder with Thor and Iron Man are long over. Nobody wants a hero who gets consistently beaten.

  6. BP’s always been depicted as being straight-not certain what you mean by “new gay agenda”!

  7. This is their M.O. when you have white writers who are threatened by him. They won’t leave him his wife, his powers, his country or his coolness if they have say. These things would not happen with their flagship characters generally. Just my two cents.

  8. I agree BobC but you know all too well the answer why they continue to make the most respected black hero in comics weak…TOO BLACK TOO STRONG.

  9. Disney or Marvel have never had any real commitment to the empowerment of the Black race. Not to showing it as it truly exists or to having any Black character equal or superior to a white one. The minute The Black Panther is shown (in comics or film) to be what he actually is – A MONARCH – to the world and to be a self sufficient without the need or assistance of the white race, he’ll become a symbol to the rest of the world that they may not need the ‘great white father’ either. This is the major reason The Black Panther will NEVER be shown to be superior to any white character in the Disney/Marvel (DiVel) universe.

Additionally: where are the Black creators that should be on the books? In all of DiVel’s history there have only been a few times when a series featured a Black character as a lead which had Black creators at the helm. In a world that’s predominantly Black why hasn’t there been a dedicated book for that being done by Black creators on an ongoing basis?

They’ve said Black books don’t sell. If that were remotely true Larry Stroman’s ‘Tribe,’ which made over a million dollars back 1993, could never have happened. It’s 2015 and the time for that lame excuse is past.
