With half the team trapped in the bowels of mysterious and very probably haunted WUNDAGORE MOUNTAIN, the rest of the all-new New Warriors deal with the bar scene in Prague!
A look inside the mind of happy go lucky SPEEDBALL, the most hated man in America.
A dog and cat play chess, the result of which could destroy NEW YORK CITY.
Summary
The story opens with a mysterious being playing chess with an animal humanoid. The team of Water Snake, Scarlet Spider and Justice continue to clean up the High Evolutionary’s Transian castle. Water snake keeps having cryptic visions. In town Haechi, Hummingbird, Speedball and Sun Girl bond over lunch. Upon returning to the castle they meet Canninus and Felinatus two of the only remaining new men created by the High Evolutionary years ago. The animals then teleport the entire mountain to New York.
What I thought
I would have preferred the art of the opening arc but Nick Roche has a very animated style that makes the facial expression pop. This issue was also heavy on the humor which is a big break from my typical pull list. The personalities of the main cast continue to be highlighted and I enjoyed the nod to Speedball’s past as Penance.
My biggest complaint remains the same no Night Thrasher.
Overall I give this issue a 3/5
The All-New New Warriors announce their arrival to the rest of the world, which doesn’t make anyone particularly happy.
The Avengers vs. the New Warriors!
And who’s the power behind the High Evolutionary?
Summary
A page from the Darkhold releases a demon onto mount wundagore. The arrival of the mountain in New York city brings out the Avengers. Cap and Tony try to talk Justice and Speedball out of reforming the New Warriors to no avail. The rest of the team along with Thor bond over defeating the demon from the darkhold. When they take home Haechi they are attacked by Hollow and his Inhuman gang.
What I thought
I enjoyed the story. The art and colors were great as well. Nothing special happened honestly. I also enjoyed the introduction of the new Inhuman enemies. I’m very interested to see where the Inhuman elements go in this book. I was also pleased with the introduction of Hollow a new Inhuman villain. Overall this was filler and as such it gets 2.5/5 stars
New Warriors (2014) #7 Review
The New Warriors are pulled into INHUMANITY as their own resident Inhuman, Haechi, is targeted by two different tribes of Inhumans.
Who are Mister Whiskers and Jake Waffles? Whose side are they on, good or evil? What does Jake Waffles possess that Speedball wants so badly?
And who is hunting NOVA?
Summary
In the home of Haechi he absorbs the explosion and does battle with Hollow and his Inhuman gang. O the verge of winning the villains’ teleport him away with them. AT an undisclosed location Sun Girl awakens without her weapons with Haechi bound by Darkforce chains. Sun Girl manages to free Haechi but runs into even more Inhumans
Justice and Speedball call in Silhouette a former new Warrior and Darkforce user to aid them. Before they are ready they are teleported via Darkforce to the Inhuman gang’s lair.
What I thought
Now this is what I’ve been waiting for! Loved having Silhouette make an appearance. Hopefully she sticks around in a more permanent or at least semi-regularly. Can her bro make a return to? That would be awesome! This issue really makes me wish marvel was doing more on the Inhuman front. Haechi has not won me over but Sun Girl is clearly a favorite of Chris Yost which means crazy character development is on the horizon. She also seems to be our point of view character since she’s a mere human in the midst of all this crazy. It’s a good mechanic and makes her the emotional focal point of things. I’m getting attached to this girl and since in #1 I could care less about her Chris Yost is doing a good job. I enjoyed the art and the little action we got as well as the brief origin of Hollow which was more or less a generic origin that can be applied to just about all the New Inhumans.
I’m still disappointed that there is no Night Thrasher in this book but I’m willing to now wait it out because with Silhouette’s inclusion I’m confident Chris Yost has not lost his touch since the New X-men days and will deliver given enough time.
Overall this issue was a step in the right direction. I was excited, emotionally invested and at the edge of my seat. New Warriors #7 was a great read! 3.5/5
