Voodoo #10 Review

“DEAD CITY” begins as PRIS and the BLACK RAZORS pursue VOODOO into outer space!

Is the Dead City really dead? If so, how do you explain the mutated DAEMONITES attacking from every direction?

Summary

Voodoo sneaks into the dead city to only realize it’s not as dead as she was told. She’s caught by the Daemonites there.

In Space Pris is using all her power to keep the aircraft she’s commandeered to fly to Voodoo’s location unfortunately the “crew” in there testosterone driven rage knock her unconscious causing the aircraft to crash.

Back on the planet Voodoo escapes her captors and reveals her purpose there, she then sets out to locate the artifact and is attacked by its guardians.

The Good

Art- Sami Basri is the main reason I’ve stuck with this book after Ron Marz was booted from writing duties and he never disappoints. Voodoo and Pris are beautiful, the men are rugged and ripped and the monsters are gruesome yet smooth, I love it all!

The Race- This series is on its last legs and things are ramping up as both Pris and Voodoo try to get the artifact that may well swing the tide of the deamonite invasion of earth. Voodoo has full control of her abilities but Pris is fast approaching the very same level of control even under duress. Which of these girls will save their respective race? We’ll see!

Daemonites- I’m intrigued by this race. So far we’ve seen so many varieties. We have the ½ human hybrids like Voodoo, the pure blood daemonites who possess people and are always blue and now the Daemonite graveyard breed, larger than the others, brown in color and cannibalistic. Relaunching Wildcats of at least placing voodoo and perhaps Grifter on one of the Justice League teams and focusing on the invasion itself could really make a solid book after this one is canceled. Food for thought….

Cover- Voodoo is strung up like a prize winning fish with the Daemonites of the dead city around her, all the creatures are bathed in a soft cool blue glow, very nice!

Action- Fisticuffs litter this tale making it a surefire hit for action heads.

The Bad

Focus-Characterization is gone, with the need to wrap everything up quick I’m not expecting much from this book in terms of real character growth or development.

Clone-The clone saga nature of the story may turn some off lord knows I’m ½ expecting to run into a clone army of the titular character very soon.

Guardians– I’m I the only one that remembers the never ending story when they see the two titanic guardians who kill all who are unworthy? No?

The Ugly

I’m still enjoying this book and respect D.C for keeping it on the shelves this long,  action has taken over from the great and solid characterization of earlier issues but it’s still fun 3/5

stars- 3 good
