Valiant is proud to present your first look inside UNITY #2 – the next issue of 2013’s chart-topping, smash-hit new series debut by New York Times best-selling writer Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT, Justice League of America) and superstar artist Doug Braithwaite (Justice, Journey Into Mystery)!
Broken but not beaten… Unity has to put down X-O Manowar and avert nuclear war. But Harada’s super-team lasted a grand total of five minutes last issue before they were taken out. Time for Unity 2.0…but how do you get a cast of malcontents, egotists, immortal warriors, and manipulative backstabbers to work together? The answer? You don’t tell them they’re working together.
The Good
Action– Valiant has become synonymous with over the top, well choreographed action scenes and Unity is no exception. This issue is top notch, seamless and totally epic.
Black Hero– I’ve liked Livewire since she made her debut and this issue she becomes my favorite black superhero from Valiant, sorry Quantum and Animalia. Livewire shows why Harada did not kill her when her actions lead to the Harbinger Wars, he needs her. In a world where technology is everywhere Livewire is potentially the most dangerous Harbinger in existence. This issue she not only proves to be the most import component of the plan to take down Aric. Not only does she manage the task but she also bonds with the Manowar armor!? Talk about a bloody twist!
Art- Like last issue this one is well choreographed.
Tension– I love the unresolved issues with Harada and Livewire . She stands her ground which is scary when you consider Harada blows people’s heads up in the blink of an eye. She knows her worth and as a result is not bound by the constraints of a typical Harbinger. It’s also obvious that she only serves Harada as long as it suits her whim, if she sees an alternative she’ll turn on him in the blink of an eye.
Cliffhanger– This issue ends with a new host for the Manowar armor, the ship plummeting into the depths of the ocean and all our protagonists unconscious.
The Bad
Complaints you say? None I say!
The Ugly
Unity #2 is a mind blowing action romp that very well changes how we look at Valiant from here on in! 5/5
