New series writer JEFF LEMIRE introduces a new team roster and a new mission!
Featuring JOHN CONSTANTINE, ZATANNA, DEADMAN, BLACK ORCHID and more!
Constantine and the team must steal a map to the source of all magic out of the clutches of FELIX FAUST!
The first of a four-part story that will have lasting implications for the entire DC Universe.
The Good
Art- The art courtesy of Mikel Janin looks great and suits the tone of this book very well.
Accessibility- This issue is new user friendly with small snippets introducing all the major players on the field and what their abilities are. Even if you missed the earlier issues this is a good a time as any to join this magic fueled Justice League!
Cover-A dark foreboding cover that one would expect from a title dealing with the dark magical corners of the new DCU.
Black superhero on deck- Meet Dr. Mist an African mystic of immense power (Read his biography here)
Source of Magic-ok this issue introduces the concept that all magic in the new DCU is derived from four artifacts with immense world shaping power. Interesting, let’s see if they can execute this properly!
The Bad
Flashback- Some fans hate the use of multiple flashbacks and this issue goes there. If you had a hard time following the story because of said flashbacks blame writer Jeff Lemire.
Verbose- while the issue was accessible I found the use of dialogue far above modern standards. This is not the 90’s Jeff I know you have allot to introduce but this may have been too much for new readers and modern comic fans to stomach in one sitting.
The Ugly
I like the somber tone of this book with Constantine as our point man, I’m interested in what writer Jeff Lemire has in store for the magical branch on the new DCU tree. 3/5
