Civil War II #2 Review

CIVWARII2016002 (1)

Two issues in one month? Hell yes! As the Marvel Universe reels from the events of the first issue, Tony Stark decides to take matters (and the law) into his own hands and declares war on the Inhumans. But not everyone agrees with Tony’s perspective and they are willing to die trying to stop him

What I thought

Civil War II  continues with issue 2! The entire issue is pretty much Tony being a hypocritical psychopath. He goes to kidnap Ulysses, succeeds, mildly tortures him, and is confronted by the Inhumans, Avengers, and Ultimates. That sums up the issue. It’s pretty cut-and-dry.

Tony wants to know how Ulysses brain functions, for some reason. The Inhumans want Ulysses to be safely returned home. Carol and her crew want Medusa to stray from violence, in the event that Tony doesn’t give Ulysses over without a fight.

OH! And Ulysses has a powerful vision of Hulk killing all of them. It was so powerful of a vision that everyone around him felt it. This leads Carol to visit Bruce Banner and end the issue.

This issue took simple ideas but made them feel more complicated. It also made the idea of Civil War II feel dumb. Stark was part of the group that sent Hulk into space, as a preventative measure. He’s faked his death (not even letting his best friend know), just to keep people from going after him while he’s vulnerable. He had Reed Richards clone Thor, just to tilt the scales in his favor! So, he does all of this but isn’t fine with others taking accurate visions and preventing devastating issues? It makes no sense. The issue was enjoyable but Tony’s lapse of reason pointed out that they didn’t really give us the best reason for a new Civil War. I give it a 3 out of 5.

stars- 3 good
