The most advanced tech known to humans has been used to turn Vic Stone in to Cyborg, making him one of the most powerful beings on the planet. Now he’s been targeted by alien invaders that want his technology—even if they have to kill Cyborg and everyone he knows to get it!
The Good
Art– Ivan Reis is the series artist and everything continues to looks stunning. Victor’s sleek and sexy new redesign is both more human and at the same time less so. There is a strange dichotomy that Reis draws by blending the beauty and beast aspects into one. Reis creepy designs for the Cyber villains/Technosapians are truly bone chilling. I can’t get over how disturbing they are…..what techno nightmares would you have to blend the X-men’s Phalanx, Star War’s Yuuzan Vong and Star Trek’s Borg.
Characterization– Victor has that playfulness of an early 20 year old which brings back memories. His humanity and relatablity make Cyborg one f the better books on the shelves.
Action- The dream sequence is the only real action this issue but it’s hard to complain when it’s rendered expertly.
Story– on another world the tech Villains make plans to find Cyborg. Those who allowed Cyborg’s tech to fall into the villains hands realize they may have doomed all life. On Earth Cyborg trains and Zirrozinski has illegal cybernetics implanted into his body. The villains track the cybernetic tech to Earth and find Zirrozinski.
Cover– This month’s cover features those ultra creepy cross between the X-men’s Phalanx, Star War’s Yuuzan Vong and Star Trek’s Borg. They are literally drawn straight from the stuff of nightmares. They are all strung up behind our titular hero who has an awesome morphed appendage just seething with power.
Introspection- Victor’s dream sequence and his monologue asked poignant questions on every fans mind: Does he sleep, how does he go to the bathroom, can he have sex….without his genetalia, hands or feet (Don’t go there lol). David Walker also used that opportunity to explore another side of Victor’s evolving powers. His mother box given powers may also allow him to intercept signals from other dimensions….interesting times abound.

Cyborg #2 continues to dazzle me with its seamless blend of story and art, an impending threat to existence. David Walker and Ivan Reis are very close to making me a believer in this series it’s just a pity DC Comics has such a crappy track record with its minority books that I can’t risk the emotional devastation that a cancellation would cause. Overall this book gets 4/5 stars, it’s damn near perfect!
