Justice League (2011) #28 Review

JusticeLeague#28 1“FOREVER EVIL” continues! With the Justice League gone, new heroes continue to rise up throughout the DC Universe! The Crime Syndicate tried to kill him, but now Cyborg is back to settle the score — and with him are The Metal Men!

The Good

Action– The Metal men vs. the radioactive man was brief yet a nice change of pace from the more story heavy moments.

StoryCyborg tracks down Dr. Magnus to request the aid of his Metal Men to save the world with the Justice League out of commission.  Magus at first refuses and recounts the creation and “death” of the Metal Men. The tale inspires Magus with Cyborg’s help to reactivate the Metal Men to save the planet.

Cover– This month the Metal Men in all their glory get the cover treatment and thanks to Ivan Reis, Joe Prado and Rod Reis it is gloriously detailed and super slick. I like it!

Black HeroCyborg like last issue is in the driver’s seat. Still like his redesign and characterization. Geoff John’s strikes again.

Art– Ivan Reis as always turns in slick and simply stunning visuals complimented by the

Debut– This marks the big debut of the Metal Men in the new 52 timeline. I was never a fan of the originals. Can’t recall ever reading a single book with them in it, fortunately this debut make’s them human and selfless enough that they are relatable. Each character has a very distinct look and personality giving their team instant chemistry and dynamism. They will be a worthy addition to the New 52 ranks if they can maintain their momentum after this issues big debut.

The Bad

Justice League– At this point it’s quite silly to think of this book as “Justice League” when the only member who has been present since Forever Evil began was Cyborg. I expect fans of “Justice League” as a team book will be disappointed.

The Ugly

Cyborg was more of a guest star this issue but the Metal Men were surprisingly engaging and fun. Add that to the stellar art, great cover, great characterization and action and we have a winner-4/5
