Justice League (2012) #27 Review

JusticeLeague#27 1

A FOREVER EVIL tie-in! With the Justice League still missing, a barely functional Cyborg will need help if he’s going to take down the Crime Syndicate! To do that, he must find Doctor Will Magnus!

The Good

Cover-Beautifully rendered and quite literal illustration courtesy of Ivan Reis. Cyborg bursts forth from his old tank like body with his newer slicker and dare I say far more aesthetically pleasing form. I like it!

Art– Ivan Reis’s art is so very sexy. Every single panel meticulously crafted, action flows like liquid mercury. Everything is as it should be, on point from start to finish.

Action- The opening fight between the two amateur heroes and the crime syndicate members was very amusing, though one sided.

Black HeroCyborg gets the spotlight this issue and man how I wish he had his own monthly title right now. Nevertheless we get Victor Stone having great character moments with his estranged father. We also manage to get a new set of powers and armor for our hero. There is also the hint of just how much easier it is on Cyborg not being connected to every single computer on Earth.

The Bad

Forever Evil– Like most ‘events’ this one has gone on far too long. I’m not interested in this entire ‘forever evil’ BS and I’m sure a great many fans feel the same way.

Accessibility– Huge problem with this issue is its lack of a recap page or a text box to tell new readers what the hell is going on. To truly appreciate what unfolds with Cyborg you would have needed to know his new origin from the opening arc of Justice League 2011. You would also need to know what happened during the ‘Trinity War’. I don’t know about you but that is a daunting back log I would rather not have to deal with.

The Ugly

Overall Justice League #27 was enjoyable and managed to pull me back into the DC Universe after my interest was well below sub zero. Let’s see if they can keep it up. 3/5

stars- 3
