Coming in across the airwaves is the sad news that artist and comic creator Mario Gully has plead guilty to robbery and is apparently heading back to jail. Mario rose to fame after the creation of “The Ant” a comic book series about a bi-racial woman with ant like powers and costume. The inspiration for the series came to him while in jail and observing the creature. Ant was a cult hit due to it’s sexual imagery and high profile attachment to Arcana comics and later Image Comics which saw the titular character meet up with Todd McFarlene’s Spawn. Gully later found mainstream success illustrating many titles for marvel comics such as Marvel Illustrated, Hulk and Exiles.
It appears that the comic book creator of Ant, Mario Gully, was charged with robbery in July, resulting in his incarceration. He pled guilty to the charge of larceny from a person and is currently awaiting sentencing.
Jack Estrada noticed the official record of his arrest, as well as the news that his family were deleting his Facebook page, and noting that he wouldn’t be around for some time.
More as it breaks!
