After a disastrous mission with the team, Aqualad returns to Atlantis to choose between a life on the surface world or one beneath the waves with the Aquagirl of his dreams. But other forces at play may make Aqualad’s decision for him.
*Spoilers*
Aqualad and the team get beaten by Clayface and have to be saved by Batman. Back at headquarters Batman gives Aquualad a leave of absence to decide whether he wants to remain on the surface world and lead the team or return below the waves.
On his downtime he returns to Atlantis where he learns Aquaman and his wife are expecting a child and the woman he loves, in his absence has fallen for his best friend. We also learn that his powers are derived from a limited form of Magic practiced by the atlanteans. He became aqualad after saving Aquaman during a battle with sea master.
Robin laments Batman’s comments during his downtime and trains harder, Miss martian and Superboy almost kiss during their downtime. Artemis gets accepted to a prominent Gotham school by the Bruce Wayne foundation which makes her crippled mom very happy.
Black Manta and his team attacks the under water city trying to recover an ancient sea creature with uncharted regenerative abilities. They are almost successful but Aqualad‘s quick thinking stops the creature from falling into their hands. Manta destroys the creature instead of lose it to them and flees. Aqualad returns to the surface knowing once and for all this is his place.
Manta reports back to “the light” the mysterious villains connected to everything thus far.
