Biography

LeTonya Charles was a club girl who was into the drug scene. Her drug of preference became the highly addictive Tar, which had the added side effect of granting the user superhuman strength. LeTonya’s continued use of the drug destroyed her body and her internal organs, leaving her on the verge of death. LeTonya’s aunt Sara, who was a genius-level scientist who worked at S.T.A.R. labs as a researcher and part of the team that rebuilt Cyborg, saved her live by implanting cybernetic technology in her to replace the damaged parts that were similar to the that which was used to repair Cyborg.  Given a second chance, LeTonya did not use her newfound abilities for good, but instead chose to use them for her own personal gain and became a criminal. She was recruited by Queen Clea to become a member of the new incarnation of Villainy Inc. and was present when they invaded Skartaris. She used her powers to access Atlantean mainframes located in the sub-basements and while interfacing with them managed to get lost in their systems, which enabled her to be taken over by a treasonous member of Villainy Inc. She was freed and captured with the rest of the villains. By this time she just wanted to go home and ended up helping one of the heroes. (Wonder Woman #179-185; 2002)  She made her way back to the US only to be with a group of villains who are targeted by the Suicide Squad. She and the other villains turn themselves into the JLA for protection. (JLA #17-18; 2008) While in prison she is approached by Mr. Orr of Project M.  Cyborgirl’s aunt Sara was one of the researchers on the project, and it was from this project that LeTonya received her parts. The project was to secretly use Cyborg’s as a basis for military projects. Mr. Orr was assembling a team to stop Cyborg from taking the project down. The team; named the Cyborg Revenge Squad; attacked Cyborg, but was defeated. Cyborgirl disappeared afterward and has not been seen since. (DC Special: Cyborg #1-6. 2008)

  1. Yay DC! Another black hero with a checkered beginning! It annoys me the frightening level of white supremecy that goes into this .
