Captain America and the Mighty Avengers #1 Review

CaptainAmericaandtheMightyAvengers#1 1

Spinning directly out of AVENGERS & X-MEN: AXIS! Sam Wilson has become Captain America, and when he assembles the Mighty Avengers, he has a whole new mission statement in mind for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. But how do the events of AXIS already spell doom for the team’s new direction? And what is Luke Cage doing meeting with the head of the notorious Cortex corporation? And why is Spider-Man trying to rejoin the team–doesn’t he know Luke and Jessica have been itching for payback ever since he tried to take their daughter to Child Services back when he was “Superior”?!

AXIS TIE-INS!

Issue #1 –

They’re the Avengers for the people, of the people – helping whoever needs it, however they need it.

And together with Sam Wilson – the all-new Captain America – they are Mighty.

But in the wake of the earth-shattering events of AXIS, are they truly together? Or about to fall apart?

Guest-starring the apologetic arachnid – Spider-Man!

The Good

Art– Luke Ross’s art is detailed, sharp and on point! I enjoyed it from start to finish.

SummaryAll New Captain America takes down some criminals rather harshly out on the street. At mighty avengers HQ Inverted Luke refuses to hear a remorseful spider-man’s apology. Back at Cortex incorporated the swashbuckler and his band attack the building but have also been affected by the inversion. Before they can gather their thoughts New Captain America arrives to kick their teeth in.

Black heroes– This issue has Power man, White Tiger, Blue Marvel, Spectrum, Luke Cage and All New Captain America. Luke Cage gets a good amount of face time but the lion’s share of the issue went to inverted Falcon/Captain America, to great effect.

Humor– It was hilarious watching the smash buckler and his band essentially trip over each other deciding if they should rob the company for themselves or for charity. Great stuff!

Cover– This image has been floating around almost as long as we’ve known Falcon was taking over the Captain America mantle. It has the American flag in the background, the Mighty Avengers in the mid ground while Falcon/Captain America dominates most of the cover in his new costume. I like it!

Tie In– Axis is upon us and this issue follows Avengers and X-men: Axis #3 where the heroes and villains present during Scarlet witch and Dr. Doom’s spell were inverted.

Action– Watching New Captain America beat the crap out of the thugs was a high point of my month, it was simply epic in every single panel.

The Bad

Tie In- The last series started out tying into INFINITY and the second series begins with yet another tie in. That’s either good or bad.

The Ugly

I enjoyed this one from start to finish and I’m very curious how the all new Captain America will manage to take the reins of this team. For an opening issue this one had action, art, cover humor and so much more so we give it a 3.5/5

stars- 3.5
