Genius #2 Preview

GENIUS: ISSUES 1-5, WEEKLY THROUGHOUT AUGUST The Winner of Top Cow’s Pilot Season makes its triumphant return to print! What if the greatest military mind of our generation was born to a people who are already supremely conditioned to wage war, who know nothing but violence since birth, and must continually adapt to new predators in order to survive? What if the second coming of Alexander the Great, of Genghis Khan, of Napoleon, of Patton…what if it was a teenaged girl from South Central, L.A. named Destiny? And what if she decides to secede three blocks of the ‘Hood from the Union? Who is going to take it back from her and her army of gangbangers? Who CAN? From writers MARC BERNARDIN and ADAM FREEMAN (Alphas, X-Men Origins: Nightcrawler, The Authority, The Highwaymen) and rising-star artist AFUA RICHARDSON comes a harrowing, action-packed tale of a city that declares war on a brilliant young woman pushed to the edge.

I read the first issue .I thought it was well thought out out and well written
Destiny was like steel , strong and resolute .The fires of anger and outrage burn cold and terrible inside her .
The story reads like a perfectly undated version of “The Spook Who Sat by the Door” ( By Sam Greenlee.
I have been waiting a long time for this book and this character .
Genius #2 is out this week .
I am very much looking forward to it.

I have had a look a the second issue .I am very impressed
We get an extended slam bag action urban warfare sequence in which Destiny’s force prevail -which was to be expected And it was very satisfying.
And the one smart cop would has figured out what is going on escapes ,to inform his superiors and make things harder for our heroine – I expected that to happen
But the story also features a few developments that I did not expect I really liked that
Namely – the story high lights the reach of the internet but also makes the very true point that the event ( Desiny’s Insurrection) will not become NEWS until the media picks up the story and takes it seriously .And that the authorities understand the importance of winning the Media war ( Hearts and Minds) To my mind this is some pretty smart and perceptive writing.
    – A journalist boldly embeds /inserts herself into the action ( the Revolution will be Televised ) Plus the story notes the media ( private enterprise ) has more money and better resources than the authorities ( the gov’t) I thought that was a perceptive point.
    – even though they decisively win this round Destiny’s soldiers dispute her tactics and remind her they are soldiers ( committed and dedicated and men and women) not pawns ( assets and resources ). I am very interested to see how Destiny deals with this development
    Really like this issue
Very much looking forward to the next issue
