Mighty Avengers (2013) #10 Review

Mighty Avengers #10 cover

  WHAT DID THE WATCHER SEE?

The Good

Story- Blade is defeated and captured by the Were-Chickens on earth. On the moon Blue Marvel meets with Ulana, the dead Watcher Uatu’s mate. They muse about Uatu’s life before he is dubbed their unborn child’s “godfather”. He uses his powers to help the baby come to maturation. Back on Earth Falcon, Spectrum and Luke Cage battle a self aware and scared “Mindless one”. Then the captured Blade stands before his captors: The Deathwalkers, rulers of fire, water, earth and air.

Cover– Gorgeous rendering of Blue Marvel/Adam Brashear floating majestically over the surface of the moon; quite fitting when you consider most of the issue is dedicated to the fallout from Original sin with “the Watcher” killed and Blue Marvel visiting his significant other and kid.

Art-Courtesy of Greg Land; this issue has a few pages with multiple panels dedicated to Blade the Vampire Hunter v the fir breathing were-chicken ninjas (I am not making this stuff up!).

Friendship– It was touching to see another side to the character of the watcher through Blue Marvel. Original Sin has focused on the fallout of his death and the exposure of secrets but this issue focuses on “humanizing” him. It also

Action- I truly enjoyed the rather seamless exchange and choreography of the battle between Blade and the Were-chickens as well as Luke and company tackling the mindless one.

The Bad

Villains– While I am excited at the last page reveal of the villains, their obscure nature will not be bringing in anymore fans.

The Ugly

Mighty Avengers continues to impress me each and every month and this issue ramps it up big time! 4/5 Stars

stars- 4 very good

  1. Really really LUVD dis issue & Ewing’s brilliant writing dat has set-up BM so perfectly 2 b a xcter of cosmic significance. It was nice 2 c dat after all d pain BM has gone thru with his kids, his wife, best friend turnd enemy & now d death of his mentor/Uatu….dat BM gets 2 express luv & happiness as d chozen ‘fathr’/godfathr/guardian of Uatu’s child. Hv u read MA #11 yet? We/SZ luv 2 read ur revw on dat.

  2. Regrding d villains, d “obscure nature” provides a mystery thru which fans wud b interestd in finding out who & wat dey r otherwise d villian wud b cmpletely 1-note if dey just poppd-up out of nowhr blabbering all their plans strait-up without any mystifying creep factor(esp with magical/mystic villains). Dat wud b dead-beat story telling & wud b VERY boring.
