African Queen?

What do you guys think of 16-year-old white model Ondria Hardin being “painted” in  deep brown make-up in an editorial for Numéro magazine” called “African Queen”.

AFRI Q

The magazine obviously felt: “why hire a black model when you could just paint a white one!”
AFRIQUEEN
RACISM or NOT?

  1. I think the artist knew he would cause controversy or was blatantly oblivious. In either case it was a very callous act to say the least. I’m not upset with the model because she was just doing her job but there are a lot of 16 year old black models out there that could have done the job as well.

  2. White women always wanted typical black beauty features ( booty, full lips, tanned skin…) J-lo’s behind, Angelina Jolie’s lips.Yet that same society which praise them, reject the black woman’s beauty even though we are naturally endowed with those same features they crave.
As a black woman this is exactly what I got from this “why hire a black model when you could just paint a white one!” “The natural blacks aren’t beautiful enough for us so let’s just use some of their features on the beautiful skinny white woman” It’s very sad but it’s not an isolated case. But thank God there is some kind of “revolution” within the black communities all over the world as black women become more and more conscious and appreciative of their own beauty by “going natural”(stop using chemicals to alter the texture of their beautiful coiled hair) for exemple.

  3. While I may not like the actions, given what the artist had to work with, Tell the truth he turned an ugly duckling into a beautiful Black swan. The skill of makeup artists never ceases to amaze me. They can take a broken and defective canvas and almost make a master piece. I mean have you seen Oprah without makeup.

  4. I could think of a dozen beautiful dark skin black women they should’ve used in that photo shoot, WHAT THE HELL, its 2013 and this crap is still going on.

  5. It’s all part of the system of racism and continue to promote white supremacy but like Fatima said, they wanna be us !!! BUT YOU CAN’T

  6. I think it shows how truly pathetic some white people can be. They hate us with a passion but at the same time they are passionate about BEING us! REally, sad, really pathetic.

  7. Now I do agree that this should not have taken place. There are tons of beautiful black models they could have chosen from but to say that all white women approve of this because we want to look black is just as asinine. I have no desire to look black. I like my wide hips, med ass, med breasts and flat stomach. With nice lips and my wavy, easy to manage hair. I don’t wanna be any other race then the one I am and I think all beauty should be celebrated and appreciated without everyone claiming everyone wants to be someone else. Cause I can sit here and name all kinds of black women that try to look white. Beauty is beauty, everyone sees what they want.

  8. You could but then you’d have to learn history and see where the oldest wigs come from or the inspiration behind the corset. Then you’d have to ask yourself what’s with all the tanning, ass pads, collegen shots in the lips, models twisting their bodies to make it appear like they have hips and the new style of jeans that make it appear you have an ass then check out where you get your fashion sense and dance and slang and on and on and on. We could go back and forth but I can attribute our women’s imitation of white women to indoctrination and lack of knowledge of self and ya’ll would only have one reason for your imitation of black women. But if you really do have all of those assets that you have stated then you are the exception to the obvious rule.

  9. So women in the 1600’s decided to be curvy because they read an article in a magazine that showed black curvy women? Nope sorry. They were curvy because that showed your social status. The heavier you were the more money you had. And wigs? Those also date back to the 1600’s but white people I’m sure got the idea from African’s that were walking around wearing wigs. Now as for white women being less curvy these days, yes because the healthiest race in America is the white/Asian races. More active, eat less because we haven’t tried to fool the world into thinking that our obesity is really just curvy. Those so called curves that black women are trying to make acceptable are only going to lead to diabetes, heart disease and hypertension. So if black women are so much more in tune with themselves these days why do they still try and emulate our hair and noses. The only big facial feature that is attractive are the lips. Which I can understand the appeal there, why women want bigger lips. So are you saying that Mexican women got their lips from black women? White women also have all lengths of hair and textures- straight, wavy and curly. How many do you have? And how many black women can grow out their hair without a lot of time and effort. As for most of the slang, you should have kept that to yourselves. There’s a reason people say talk white, it actually makes you seem educated and not just another waste in society. What’s the unwed mother rate for these newly self assured women? What is your rate of deadbeat dads? What is the average number of black college students? Guess maybe you should worry less if all these women of all races want to look black and get out in the community and spread some helpful knowledge. But you taught me, you’re facts were all correct and all women just wanna look black. I personally think Asians are built amazing- and with all the hype around them, black women might be replaced by them as the body type to be. Plus they are healthy and have a decent life expectancy and most are highly educated because you don’t see many of them worried about what people think of their bodies or how many people dress up like them.

  10. Well after such a lengthy and heartfelt story, I hav no choice but to give you a brief education on YOUR white history of which your so beautifully confused about. Although this isn’t the right forum for this discussion I’ll try to keep it short.First of all the oldest wigs in the world are from Africa and they are in the Egyptian museum and date back to B.C. The corset was created by a European man who got the inspiration after seeing the natural curves of african women and he wanted their own flat rectangular shaped women to look like that. The social status is true because only the well to do could afford it. There’s over 300 million Americans and only 40 million are what is considered black so of course more whites are seen as being in shape cause its more whites?!? I don’t know how you pulled Mexican lips in this. As far as hair is concerned, indoctrination is what makes white women’s hair so popular because black hair is strong and thick hair, white hair is weak and flimsy. We don’t care what you think about Asians cause they got less figures and ass than you white women. Lastly if you look at black female athletes and upper class black women you’ll find that most of them are in better shape than their boney white counterparts. Do some real research and you’ll find that you beliefs don’t match up with the facts.Sorta like ancient history and the bible…but that’s another story.

  11. Missy, your whole comment shows so much ignorance about women of color. lol its cute though, as we quietly sit around the board room taking over. lol and i’m not curvy, wasn’t born that way. You actually think you’re better because you’re white. no matter how much people say that there are white people that think this way, i still have a hard time grasping it. I personally think i’m better than everybody, just because, i’m arrogant as shit and have enough degrees, money and beauty to pull that off. and FYI, black women can grow out their hair just fine without chemicals, most don’t want to wear kinky hair because they have been brainwashed to think something is wrong with it and my hair is easy to manage as long as i dont try to make something its not and same for whites, there are no afros and puffs, if your were trying to make your hair like our natural styles it would be hard to manage too, lol just logic, , and everybody of all races tell me how beautiful I am all the time. And also, I divorced my husband, because i was better than him too. lol, he’s my ex husband, not my baby daddy. but i love that women like you think they know us. it makes achieving great things so much more orgasmic, simply because you don’t think i’m good enough. lol people are silly and i’m very well spoken since i do lecture for a living and no one has ever told me i talk white… sounds like low level people you’ve bee associating with. get new friends, watch new tv show, read a book. As i tell my students, “that is all” -)
