Wolverine and Storm……Again?!

Again?!

By now I’m sure most avid comic fans have realized that in light of the dissolution of Storm’s marriage to the Black Panther during Avengers vs X-men that Storm will be joining not just the Uncanny X-force lead by long time BFF Psylocke but will also be joining the teaching staff at the Jean Grey institute over in Wolverine and the X-men.

[youtube=http://youtu.be/6J3OlNjBefk]

Now as the above image indicates we may be seeing the re-emergence of the Storm/Wolverine pairing last touch on in the Chris Claremont run of Uncanny X-men right before her marriage to the Black Panther. Fans may also remember they have been paired together in many alternate dimensions and produced offspring such as Torrent.

When series writer was asked about the romance aspect of Wolverine and the X-men he said

“We’ve been building to Iceman and Kitty going on their first date,

and there’s obviously something going on

with Logan and Storm as well,”

Lowe then told us to expect ramifications for Storm and her fellow teachers in June 2013

“I just want to stress how big Jason is thinking and how big the artists are thinking.

This is a huge story that has a big ramifications for Wolverine,

the Jean Grey School, Storm, Iceman, Kitty —

this is not a time to fall off the ‘Wolverine & the X-Men’ train.”

Let’s hope he doesn’t mean a rush wedding for Wolverine and Storm XD

What do you guys think of the blatant disregard for her marriage?

Wouldn’t she need time to grieve before moving on?

Are you happy she may now be with fan favorite wolverine?

  1. I call blatant BS and disrespect! None of this makes sense outside of the alternate universe theme and I feel as if this is a slap against their marriage, history of loving each other and coupling. ‘Fan boys’ hated on the pairing because they just could not handle those two strong characters having a true love, one that was as popular and strong as Cyclops and Jean Grey’s. This is disrespectful Marvel, and I’m very Peed off at it!

  2. I haven’t been keeping up but I was upset to hear about their split. My first question is, “Why.” I’m in agreement with the Icypoetress’ statement above. No need to elaborate. And good Lord, I was so sick of Jean Grey and Cyclops but they kept dragging THAT relationship out….

  3. I don’t like it I think what has happened to her Black Panther and Wakanda has been disheartening to say the least. What’s next they become Slaves

  4. This is standard comic book disregard and disrespect for Black characters. Its absurd that Storm would go with a degenerate lowlife like Wolverine over a King like Black Panther. This is just more of their predictive programming, telling us that a strong, beautiful, Black women would go with a lowly White man over a Black King because no matter what, a White man is superior to a Black man, no matter how strong, powerful and wealthy he is.

  5. What? What woman wouldn’t give up being Queen of a country, wife of a powerful and handsome King to go be with a savage dog,who rarely bathes, has psychotic rages, and in the character’s own words”Ain’t close to good looking.” This is Marvel putting Panther and Storm back into their “place”.Back to the good ole’ days of Storm having as much to do with being Black as Peter Parker.

  6. Wolverine belongs with Psylocke! They showed that in an a recent issue of Uncanny X-Force and it is something I have believed for years. They are soul mates. Wolverine and Storm’s personalities don’t mesh well as lovers. They only work well as friends. Wolverine and Psylocke are kindred spirits.

  7. So far, all I see is an image, but no official word on the pairing as of yet. For all we know, this could just be fan art or something… I’ll wait until I actually see this on panel. People were tripping about Cyclops and Storm kissing each other, until it was revealed on-panel than the pairing wasn’t actually going to happen. Let’s have patience.

  8. I “third” that emotion! IMHO, Storm has always been depicted as such a classy lady, so why have the writers, editors, et al taken the lazy route of racial AND sexual profiling against her (i.e., that EVERY woman KNOWS she’d rather have the “bad boy” over the “safe bet”, and that Black women are more prone to this lifestyle choice?!?)

    #throwshandsupinfrustration

  9. I agree with everyone else here and I’m pissed! It just goes to show you that racism is alive and well…even in comics. You guys should put Hudlin in charge of all the black characters cause you don’t have a clue.

  10. What’s an african queen doing with white trash like wolverine. That doesn’t even make sense. Race first!

  11. I’m sorry but I have to disagree with everyone here I’ve always wanted Storm and Wolverine together ever since I was a little girl, especially when I saw One Mans Worth. Everyone is always complaining that their personalities don’t match when in fact they do. Storm and Wolverine are both in tuned with nature, they both have to keep their emotions in check less they hurt the one’s they love, and they both have a wild side. Storm has always been there for Wolverine to calm him or when he just needs someone to talk to and vise versa. Maybe it is to soon forher to be moving on, but hey the rushed her marriage to BP, (which I hated that marriage). But say FINALLY to these two getting together.

  12. I don’t like Logan.. I don’t like him with Storm. The comic made it seem like her and T’Challa hadn’t known each other since they were young. It was bull. She has been with Logan many times in fact she has been with multi x-men many times. They make her out to be a slut.. It’s insualting. Then again she could be a playa.. Either way.. I don’t like it. I hate that the marriage was done during war times it was made to fail.

  13. Ive always felt Storm n Wolverine have a connection. Its not surprising that something would come of this, since Storm is emotional w/ her divorce w/ her childhood love n husband Panther. But for all u people that try to bring race into this pairing… Shame on You!

  14. The only connection storm should have is the one of a BLACK AFRICAN GODDESS WITH A BLACK AFRICAN KING who are we kidding here?name one strong black couple in comics that has been together and is still together despite the difficulties of being a hero like reed and sue Richards ? That’s what we are saying,BP and Storm should be the most respected couple in the marvel universe! As much as black bolt and medusa was at the very least.Theyre all we got and so we have to not allow ignorant or racist writers to just go in and destroy this historic and proud black union. In short, they should be unfukwittable!

  15. For some reason I find it more racist that the writers were like basic hey BP and Storm are black so let’s just put them together, even though they never really had anything in common. And I HATE that dumbass childhood story of them meeting. Storm and Wolvie on numeros occassions have showb their interest in eachother. For really it was only a matter of time. Now yes I woul like to see a strong Black couple, but Storm belongs with Wolverine.

  16. I have long ceased reading X-men because of the story lines lacked substance and were a desperate attempt to gain readers. I did however LOVED the marriage of Black Panther and Storm ( whom I followed since the early 80’s). I have not read their stories, so imagine my surprise at the ending of their marriage. The Wolverine/X-Men #24 issue really pissed me off. @Icypoetress, BS and disrespect, is an understatement!

  17. Storm belongs with wolverine?!? Are you serious? They have nothing in common,as a matter of fact it makes more since for her to reunite with a childhood sweetheart from her own country than a scruffy war hardened hairy little madman from Canada who everyone in the x-men knew was in love with Jean Gray! Give him kitty or rogue. And besides, what other black couple do you know in marvel?…yeah, that’s what I thought.

  18. I agree with Natalie! One Man’s Worth really made me fall in love with the pairing of ‘Ro and Logan. And in the comics we see their dynamic grow and change in a natural and organic way. First they didn’t like each other, she thought he was an animal and he thought she was stuck up. And over the years of working together they developed mutual respect, friendship, and love (even if you don’t want to say it is a romantic love between the two, they definitely love each other as friends). Storm was there for Wolverine when Mariko died and Wolverine was there for Storm when she was severely injured in X-Treme X-men and helped her in her recovery process. This pairing just makes sense for me. I never liked the marriage to Black Panther because it was definitely rushed and it felt more like a publicity stunt more than anything else. Marvel wanted to attract new black female readers…that’s why Eric Jerome Dickey wrote the fleshed out version of their first meeting in Storm’s mini series (the original meeting of T’Challa and Ororo was a back-up story in a Marvel Team Up, if I’m not mistaken). I could have gotten on board for the Panther/Storm marriage if Marvel would have taken their time and made me believe it, made me want it. But alas, they did not, so the marriage always felt forced to me. And I think people should be angry about how these two were thrown together, let’s be honest it was a hodge podgey mess. You mean to tell me that two people who haven’t seen each other since they were 15 were secretly pining away for each other?!? Please. Not to mention Storm was dating Wolverine when suddenly she is so in love with Panther…I’m sorry but I just don’t buy it. Those are my thoughts…deal with it.

  19. Oh, and Erik Baker, Ororo and T’Challa are not from the same country. She was born in the States, New York to be exact. Her mother was from Kenya. And she grew up in Egypt. None of those places being Wakanda.

  20. I’m sorry but in my opinion, Storm needs to look at anybody BUT Wolverine. No matter how much of a connection they got depending on what alternative universe you’re reading from, you cannot look over the solid and undeniable fact that Wolverine has WAAAAY too much baggage when it comes to love and relationships in general and most of the time I see him with a woman, the relationship is always either short-lived or eventually, the woman ends up dead by murder. The only women I see that seem to survive and successfully maintain a romantic stable relationship with him are almost always in what if oneshots and the women picked at random for him like Elektra and Shanna; never in canon.

And honestly, when are we gonna have a black superhero couple in Marvel ( or comics for that matter) that has the potential to last as long as Cyclops and Jean Grey?! The dissolution of Black Panther and Storm just leaves an extremely bad taste in my mouth when I think about the representation of black superheroes and romance in general. The marriage seemed like a historical moment in black comics besides the contribution of well-written black superheroes from Dwayne Duffie. And now, it feels as though Marvel as regressed back to square one.

It feels as though Marvel never did enough or even attempt to make Storm and BP truly be the strong, equal, supporting and loving couple I feel both characters deserve and just let it regress to the token black couple to get the black fans off their backs. And now seeing Storm being reduced to a bed buddy and conquest for Logan almost makes me want to hack up mucus and spit. Storm is suppose to be the regal and zen-like woman with a hard edge to her when you truly mess with her. The mohawk look is awesome but I don’t know if it should be kept since it seems as though Storm loses her taste in men and class as a result.

  21. I personally disliked the pairing with T’Challa because let’s be honest a second: it made NO sense at all. it was forced into our throats, it wasn’t sincere. As a woman I was seriously disappointed in Storm (and she is my favourite character of all time) because I thought it would have taken time for both of them to actually get into a relationship. you see? if it was better told I might have liked it, but no. yes, she was in love with the dude when she was young (like seriously YOUNG. 12 at least) then they parted away for YEARS! they never interacted until that moment authors decided they should get married. dude, 20 something years passed and we haven’t talked and the moment I see you I want to marry you? Hello….what does that say about my poor Storm?

with that said, I totally agree that there should have strong relationships OTHER than just white/white ones like Sue and Reed (although, I’m sorry these guys are boring) or Jean Grey and Scott (oh my god, worst of the worst. I was happy when he moved on with Emma, truly). not just black couples or interracial couples, same-sex or hetero. I need to see REAL couples from everywhere. that would be awesome! different types, different combination. that would be great!

back to the topic… I do ship Wolverine and Storm for they are FAR more than just a “salvage old random dude” and a “queen, quite peaceful woman”. nope. you are missing the point. the authors are missing the point. throughout the years (from the early comics to barely the ultimates) they were developped and fleshed out better than any Jean or Cyclops (although at last, this one got an upgrade by now). Storm is a woman, EVERY woman. From Street thief, to queen, to warrior, to zen, to sassy untamable punk lady. She is Free, you cannot just force one side of her to define her completely, there again, I think you’re doing it wrong. she can’t be labelled because she is everything. and as a choice of mate, my god, she can choose wolverine if she wants to. (he would still be a better choice than Forge whom I strongly hate as a character but I must admit he had a better love story with her than she with t’challa). Wolverine on the other hand, is deeper than you might think he is. Old and wise, salvage and violent, zen yet in turmoil. He is man incarnate to me. truly. the essence of masculinity just like she is the essence of feminity to me. Not only that, but they have shown throughout the years how great as friends, partners and sometimes lovers they could be. she, better than Jean could ever do, can understand and SOOTHE him just like he could (remember when she had to kill Marlow ??)

Of course, you totally can have your own opinion on that matter, but I honestly think that yes, they could/would be an awesome couple BUT I refuse to have Marvel actual writers RUIN it like they did with T’Challa…..

cause here’s my second issue with this pairing: I really thought that it was: oh they’re two black people, powerful blah blah, let’s get them married so black demographic would NOT think we’re racists, they would be the token black couple. no way!!!!! they ruined black panther, portrayed him despicably, weakened Storm, got rid of her from the main team for too long….NO NO NO NO…I couldn’t accept it. that serioulsy was BS! T’Challa deserves better, not only for his reputation (he’s the goddamn black BATMAN) but also for our own sake.

with that said, there are plenty of other black characters not just T’Challa, but ultimately, they seem to appear rarely in the comics which is a shame I agree.

please do have a nice day 🙂
